Assessing the quality of aortic valve repair during surgery remains challenging. Surgeons currently rely largely on indirect or postoperative evaluation methods, which may delay identification of residual valve leakage and limit opportunities for immediate correction. When repair quality cannot be adequately confirmed intraoperatively, additional interventions and prolonged procedure times may be required, increasing clinical burden, procedural complexity, and healthcare costs.

The AVP Device is being developed to enable objective intraoperative assessment through real-time visualization and physiological pressurization of the repaired aortic valve. By creating diastolic pressure during surgery, the device allows surgeons to directly evaluate leaflet coaptation, identify leakage, and localize areas requiring further repair before completing the procedure. This enables immediate decision-making and supports optimization of repair quality.

By providing direct and actionable feedback, the AVP Device has the potential to improve procedural confidence and patient safety, support wider adoption of valve-sparing approaches, and reduce dependence on prosthetic valve replacement where appropriate. The solution addresses an important unmet need in approximately 20,000 aortic valve repair procedures performed annually across Europe.
