Mylium

Mycelium textiles for a sustainable future

Mylium
A scalable and customizable approach to mycelium textile production.

Mylium develops innovative textiles from mycelium (fungal threads). The textile industry is heavily reliant on plastic that is often fossil based, produced with toxic chemicals and not recyclable. Mylium strives towards a plastic-free biobased alternative to synthetic leather that delivers quality with a natural feel, while leaving no waste behind after use.

The TTT Circular Technology program granted Mylium both a Proof of Concept (POC) and a Business Development ticket. Through the business development ticket the scaling-up potential was analyzed at Wageningen University & Research. Model results show that production on an industrial scale would benefit productivity and price competitiveness. The other part of the ticket is used to perform an FTO assessment and define the IP strategy together with a patent attorney.

With the POC ticket, Mylium was able to improve the material properties to such an extent that it can be used by a bag brand to design a small bag. This prototype will be presented at various locations of the Bijenkorf in August, September and October.

Iris Houthoff, founder and CEO of Mylium, is very grateful to have received the TTT-CT tickets, as this has already made an essential contribution to proving the technology and business case to potential investors.
