Noninvasive health monitoring using sweat sensing

Sweat as source for clinical information

In hospitals, patients’ health is continuously monitored. Doctors currently rely on numerous blood analyses for obtaining crucial health information, which means that patients are frequently subject to drawing blood. Especially in specific patient groups such as children this requires a difficult balance between drawing the amounts of blood needed for monitoring and minimizing the significant burden for patients and healthcare professionals that comes with the procedure. Also, the delay time between the blood drawing, analysis and results can be critical, and solutions towards real-time monitoring are desired.

Our project’s goal is to work towards the use of a new non-invasive wearable monitoring device, which provides real-time results and limits the burden for patients and healthcare professionals. We already established our technical solution, which enables us to capture tiny amounts of sweat from the patients’ skin and analyze the sweat in an integrated wearable device. Now our challenge is to bring our technology to the patient environment, test its functionality and collaborate with nurses and doctors on the practical use of our wearable technology. The goal of this project is to connect the current unmet clinical need with our solution to learn and improve our device so that it meets the needs of our (medical) customers.
