CAPISCAN

Consistent and accurate perfusion monitoring

CAPISCAN
Improving treatment guidance in sepsis and septic shock while reducing observer dependency
CAPISCAN

CapiScan is developing a novel capillary refill time (CRT) monitoring device designed to address long-standing variability and reliability challenges in critical care perfusion assessment. Unlike the current manual method—where clinicians compress a patient’s fingernail and visually estimate refill time—the CapiScan system provides standardized, objective measurement using an integrated sensing mechanism. This enables reproducible and potentially continuous tissue perfusion monitoring, improving treatment guidance in sepsis and septic shock while reducing observer dependency. The compact, portable design integrates seamlessly into ICU workflows, supporting early recognition of circulatory failure and more targeted resuscitation. By eliminating variability, the device strengthens CRT as a clinically actionable parameter. Supported by the Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Medical Center, the project is currently at TRL 3. The TTT voucher will support business validation and early-stage clinical preparation. Initially focused on the ICU market, CapiScan aims to deliver a scalable solution for broader shock-related and microcirculatory monitoring applications.
