Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a prevalent chronic inflammatory disease (270.000 diagnosed patients in the Netherlands) affecting the joints of patients and causing pain, bone erosion and eventually joint deformity. Most often the disease starts in the hands and feet of patients. The standard of care to grade joint inflammation and monitor treatment is ultrasound imaging. Current ultrasound devices on the market scan tissue in 2D, which can lead to inter-observer variability in RA diagnosis. Our technology will expand the field of view to 3D and improve the sensitivity to current ultrasound imaging to reduce inter-observer variability and improve the diagnosis of RA patients.
