GreenTech

Technology for a green and circular future

To keep our planet livable for future generations, we must accelerate the transition from a linear to a circular and climate-neutral economy. This means working towards systems that make smart use of materials and energy, reuse residual streams efficiently, and retain value at every stage of the chain.

The transition builds on the principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover and Regenerate — values that guide the business models of many startups and spin-offs. With TTT GreenTech, we extend this vision beyond circularity alone, focusing on five connected themes that together shape the green transition: Circular, Water, Agri & Food, Biobased, and Energy.

Innovative technology is key to this transition. Through TTT GreenTech, we support the development and application of promising technologies by helping researchers and entrepreneurs validate their ideas, build proof of concept, and explore market opportunities — turning knowledge into impact.

Within the themes, we stimulate innovation in key enabling technologies, including:

  • Process technology and electrification
  • Biomolecular and cell technologies
  • Imaging and sensing technologies
  • Mechatronics and robotics
  • AI and data science
  • Energy and advanced materials

The TTT GreenTech program is built on two pillars. Pillar 1 supports researchers who plan to spin off a company, while Pillar 2 focuses on recently founded spin-offs.

With our experience, we help researchers turn promising ideas into viable ventures. We provide financial support through tickets (Pillar 1), which can be used for Proof of Concept (PoC) and Business Development (BD) activities:

  • PoC activities demonstrate or improve the technical feasibility of a new technology, service, or process — for example by building prototypes or demonstrators, producing test batches or pilots, verifying performance, or preparing knowledge and data for practical use.
  • BD activities validate the market and business potential of a new technology. This can include developing value propositions, business and revenue models, conducting market or customer research, engaging with industry or investors, providing samples or pilots for market testing, strengthening the founding team, and preparing a first go-to-market plan.

For young spin-offs, we also offer initial financing, typically in the form of convertible loans designed to help them become investor-ready (Pillar 2). This part of the program is delivered by SHIFT Invest, a professional VC fund that combines capital with hands-on support and access to extensive financial and industrial networks.

Both TTT tickets and convertible loans are available to researchers and young spin-offs working within TTT GreenTech’s themes and key technologies, and aiming to build a sustainable and scalable business model.
