Electrodes with localized wettability for hydrogen fuel cells

Heratec
A novel manufacturing method to produce localized water highways within porous electrodes and improve system power density.
Heratec

Although fuel cells have great potential for sustainable energy conversion and storage, mass transport within the electrode of these systems needs to be optimized for reduced system costs. TU/e spin-off Heratec delivers a game changer technology for engineering porous electrodes with localized wettability, resulting in higher performance fuel cells with high power density and improved lifetime.

“With the use of the TTT-CT ticket, we generated a clear outline of the current status of the market and technology, produced a technology mapping, performed a competitive analysis, and composed a business plan for the formation of our start-up with a clearly defined commercial strategy. Thanks to the TTT-CT ticket, we have demonstrated the clear value proposition and commercial viability of the production and utilization of gas diffusion layers with localized wettability. As a next step, we will perform long-term durability and degradation studies based on industry standards and translate our business plan into a successful collaboration with manufacturing and fuel cell partners.”
