Brain blood flow measurement

RHYOS
A compact optical sensor for continuous bedside monitoring
RHYOS

The project develops a compact optical sensor for continuous, non-invasive monitoring of brain blood flow. Based on research by Binbin Zhang and Nandini Bhattacharya at TU Delft, the technology uses laser light and interferometric detection to measure flow-sensitive signals at different photon path lengths. This approach aims to distinguish blood-flow changes beneath the scalp from signals in superficial tissue. The initial target market is neuro-intensive care, where continuous monitoring could help clinicians identify changes in brain perfusion and assess responses to treatment without repeatedly moving patients to a scanner. TTT MedTech support will help refine the first clinical use case, advance the prototype design, and establish the business and development roadmap.
